Rob attended Missouri Western State College (now Missouri Western State University), graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics in 1979. From there, Rob went on to earn his MD from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1983.
That was the same year he married his wife, Debbie. Rob and Debbie have two children, their son Robert & daughter Renee. His wife and children have taught him, more than anyone else could, how important families and children are, both to Missouri’s present and future. After medical school, Rob & Debbie returned to Northwest Missouri and Rob began a practice as a family physician. In his practice, Dr. Schaaf has served and gotten to know many families and individuals.
The needs and concerns of these families and others like them throughout his district are Dr. Schaaf’s primary focus in his work in Jeff City. Rob was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in November, 2002, and re-elected in 2004, 2006, & 2008. As a member of the Republican majority in the House, Rob has worked hard to keep taxes low, make sure Missouri tax dollars are not wasted, protect traditional marriage, reduce the number of abortions, stop frivolous lawsuits, and make Missouri a better place to live and work.

Seeing the need for Missouri to be a more physician-friendly state, in 2004 Dr. Schaaf and his partners started "MoDocs", the Missouri Doctors Mutual Insurance Company, a medical malpractice insurance company, in order to help lower premiums and keep Missouri doctors in Missouri.
Even though his job as a legislator takes a considerable amount of time, Rob still makes a strong effort to make a difference and stay highly involved in his community back home in Northwest Missouri & around the state. He serves on the Council of the Missouri State Medical Association, and its Legislative Committee. He also serves on the Board of the Missouri State Medical Foundation. He is past-president of the Buchanan County Medical Society, and past Chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
He was medical director of Hands of Hope Hospice, and of the Gower Convalescent Center, helped form Health Choice of Northwest Missouri, a managed care company, and served on the local State Hospital’s Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Missouri Pilots Association, Missouri Farm Bureau, and The St. Joseph and Savannah Area Chambers of Commerce.
