Platte County Republican Central Committee to Host Candidates for MO Governor Event

The Platte County Republican Central Committee will host the Republican Gubernatorial candidates at an event on Saturday, November 14.

Join us for our bi-annual fundraiser where we will have food, drinks, and an opportunity to meet those men and women running for Governor of Missouri.

The event will be held at the Parkville Athletic Center located at 6014 Hwy 9, Parkville, MO.

Tickets to the event are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, or $200 for a group table. Doors open at 6:30 PM

We will also host a VIP Reception for members of the PCRCC Century Club, allowing them special time and one-on-one meetings with the candidates. Those wishing to become members of the Century Club may do so by donating $100 to the PCRCC prior to the
beginning of the evening reception. Century Club members are invited to special receptions and events throughout the year. The VIP Reception begins at 6PM.

All five of the candidates for the Republican nomination in the Missouri gubernatorial race have been invited. Come listen as they present their visions for the future of Missouri and make their pitch for why they are the right choice for Missouri Governor. Other state, city, and county elected officials and candidates will be present at the event as well.

Many local Republican and conservative organizations will have tables at the event space. If you have a group or business you would like to share with the community, please contact us so that you can advertise or reserve a vendor table at our event.

Bring your cash or checkbooks so you can bid on baskets, buy raffle tickets, and donate to show support for your candidate of choice in the Straw Poll.

For more information and to purchase tickets, see a Platte County Republican Central or online at our Home page.

The Platte County Republican Central Committee overwhelming passed the same RTW resolution passed by Missouri State Republican Committee.

Resolution Supporting Right to Work

WHEREAS, currently, tens of thousands of Missouri workers are forced to pay a fee to a labor union just to get or keep their jobs; and

WHEREAS, the overwhelming majority of Missourians are opposed to forced unionism; and

WHEREAS, passage of a Missouri Right to Work law would end once and for all the collection of forced union dues as a condition of employment in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, PHH Fantus, the nation’s longtime leading business relocation firm, reported that at least half of all companies looking to expand or relocate automatically eliminate states without Right to Work laws; and

WHEREAS, over the past decade, private sector payroll employment increased by 9.9% in Right to Work states, yet only a mere 1.6% here in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, over the past decade, real personal income in Right to Work states grew by nearly 22%, but less than half that here in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, over the past decade, private sector employment increased by 9.9% in Right to Work states, yet only a mere 1.6% here in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, over the past decade, real personal income in Right to Work states grew by nearly 22%, but less than half that here in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, from a moral, economic and Liberty standpoint — passage of a Right to Work law would be good for Missouri’s workers and economy; and

WHEREAS, the many legislators who supported Right to Work during its successful passage through the General Assembly should be commended for standing up for our economy and for the rights of Missouri’s workers; and

WHEREAS, Governor Nixon’s veto of this common sense bill is a threat to our economic well-being.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in the interest of individual workers’ freedoms, more jobs, and our state’s economy, the Platte County Central Committee supports enactment of a Right to Work law in Missouri and urges the Missouri House and Missouri Senate to override Governor Nixon’s veto of House Bills 116 and 569.

Platte County Republican Central Committee recommends voting for the November 2014 Ballot Amendments as follows:

Amendment 2: Evidence in Child Sexual Abuse Cases

We recommend a “YES” vote on Amendment 2. As Republicans we recognize that a core function of government is to protect our most vulnerable citizens. Amendment 2 will help protect children from the scourge of child sexual abuse. This amendment will allow juries to consider relevant evidence of a defendant’s prior criminal acts in prosecutions for crimes of a sexual nature involving a victim less than eighteen years of age. Currently, repeat child sex offenders are allowed to hide their prior crimes from the juries deciding their guilt. Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd helped draft this amendment and was instrumental in its approval by the legislature. Every Republican State Representative and Senator supported this amendment and the Missouri Republican Party has endorsed it.

Amendment 3: Teacher Tenure and Evaluation

We recommend a “NO” vote on Amendment 3. Amendment 3 would require teachers to be evaluated primarily on their students’ standardized test scores. We oppose this amendment because the standardized tests mandated by Amendment 3 are an imperfect measure of teacher performance. This amendment would also require teacher evaluation systems to receive state approval. We believe in local control of our school districts and we do note trust one-size-fits-all solutions imposed by Jefferson City bureaucrats.

Amendment 6: Early Voting

We recommend a “NO” vote on Amendment 6. This amendment would allow “no excuse” early voting for a period of six days prior to Election Day. We oppose this amendment because of the increased costs and opportunities for fraud associated with keeping the polls open for six additional days.

Amendment 10: Limitation on Governor’s Budgetary Powers

We recommend a “YES” on Amendment 10. This amendment will limit the Governor’s authority to hold back funding for education. Governor Nixon has repeatedly held back funding for public education, using our children as political pawns. In each case, Nixon has released the funds after he scored his political points. This amendment will provide a legislative check on the use of education funds as a political tool by Nixon (and any future governor).

Small Business Endorses Kevin Corlew in House District 14

Jefferson City, MO, October 23, 2014—The National Federation of Independent Business, Missouri’s leading small-business association, has endorsed Kevin Corlew in the House District 14 race.

The endorsement was made by NFIB/Missouri’s SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, which is comprised exclusively of NFIB members.

“Kevin Corlew understands the challenges facing the state’s small, family businesses and is the clear choice in House District 14,” said Brad Jones, state director of NFIB/Missouri.

“We believe Kevin Corlew will take a fiscally responsible approach to managing state government and support legislation that helps our small businesses grow and create jobs and puts the state back on the pathway to success.”

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating 7 out of every 10 jobs,” Corlew said. “I represent businesses in my law practice and am a member of several Northland chambers of commerce. So I know the struggles small businesses face, and I’m committed to passing meaningful legislation to create an environment where small businesses can succeed and create more jobs.”

The NFIB/Missouri’s SAFE Trust’s endorsement is important to Kevin Corlew’s campaign. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB has pledged it will activate its grassroots network on behalf of the campaign. NFIB’s political support is based on the candidates’ positions and records on small business issues.

###

NFIB is the nation’s leading small business association, with offices in Washington, D.C. and all 50 state capitals. Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB gives small- and independent-business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. NFIB’s powerful network of grassroots activists sends its views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’s free enterprise system. NFIB’s mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses. More information about NFIB is available online at www.NFIB.com/newsroom.
