Normally they charge a fee for the auditorium rental and the AV technician but they’re letting us have this event free of charge! Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington\, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2004\, nearly 60 years after their epic struggle. \nThe trips are called “Honor Flights” and for the veterans\, who are in their late 80s and early 90s\, it’s often the first time they’ve been thanked and the last trip of their lives. The 24-hour journey is full of surprises that deeply move all who are involved. It’s uncommon for World War II veterans to talk about the War\, but the Honor Flight experience brings their stories out. Many veterans say\, with the exception of their wedding day and the birth of their children\, the trip is the best day of their life. We will start with the Pledge of Allegiance including an explanation of the meaning. The children will learn about flag etiquette\, the Revolutionary War\, the Declaration of Independence\, the US Constitution/Bill of Rights\, our Great Republic\, and the Founding Fathers re-enactors. The leaders will present information in a fun and entertaining way\, so that kids will enjoy learning about our history. Campers will be in small groups by age and will rotate through 12 stations – 6 learning stations\, craft\, snack\, and games with lunch served as part of the fun. \nPatriot Camp is $20 per student/ w maximum per family of $50 and registration is required. There are some scholarships available. Space is limited to the first 60 campers so find a friend and come for a day filled with knowledge and fun.
